History
At the start of the IMSA 1987 season, I was working for Bob Akin’s team running a Porsche 962 in IMSA. We did Daytona and Sebring, finished both races, then Akin decided to stop racing (He would briefly return later in 1987). Back then in IMSA, the teams were closer than they are today. Everyone knew everyone else (especially the Porsche teams).
The IMSA owners at the time were mostly good friends, as well as competitors. Bob Akin, Bruce Leven, Preston Henn, Jim Busby, Rob Dyson, John Hotchkiss and even Al Holbert were somewhat closely linked as they were all running Porsche 962’s.
