Porsche Celebrates 75 Years In The UK

10,000 Porsche fans gather at historic Silverstone Raceway for "Sunstede Silverstone Edition"

To mark 75 years of Porsche in the United Kingdom—a milestone that also aligns with 75 years of Porsche Motorsport—the legendary Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire hosted one of the largest single-marque gatherings in its history last weekend.

Organized by Porsche Cars Great Britain with support from the country’s official owners’ club, the Icons of Porsche: Sunstede Silverstone Edition attracted more than 10,000 owners and enthusiasts from across the UK, Europe and North America over two days. The event celebrated the marque’s heritage, road cars and motorsport achievements while showcasing its latest innovations.

Silverstone as the stage for a special anniversary

Named after the ancient English word Sunstede, meaning summer solstice, the festival took place on the longest day of the year. Bathed in extended daylight, intermittent sunshine and the occasional British downpour, Silverstone provided an appropriate backdrop for a packed program of activities.

Track demonstrations featured some of Porsche’s most iconic competition cars, including the first-ever 917, the 911 GT1-98 and the 919 Hybrid. The all-new 911 GT3 Cup also made appearances around the circuit ahead of its debut in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB in 2027.

From origins to the present day

Displays throughout the historic circuit highlighted Porsche’s enduring appeal in the UK, with road cars taking center stage alongside the racing machinery.

Among the standout exhibits was one of the first three Porsche 356 models delivered to Britain, first unveiled to the public at London’s Earls Court Motor Show in 1951.

Originally unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2023, the sculpture now stands permanently outside the Porsche Experience Centre Silverstone.

Exclusive public premieres with a distinctly British flavour

Among the weekend’s headline attractions were the public debuts of two exclusive Porsche models.

The first was the limited-edition 911 GT3 with Touring Package, finished in Earlscourtgreen, a bespoke color inspired by the Moor Green Porsche 356 first shown to British buyers at London’s Earls Court Motor Show in 1951. Developed through Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur‘s Paint to Sample Plus program, the metallic finish will be reserved for just 51 examples of the 911 GT3 Earls Court 51 Edition, complemented by a two-tone Night Green and Chalk Beige leather interior.

Nearby, Porsche unveiled the Taycan Turbo S Soho House One, created by Porsche Sonderwunsch in collaboration with Soho Home, the interiors division of Soho House private members’ clubs.

A brand connecting generations

”The impact of the first Porsche models arriving in the UK in 1951 is hard to imagine – these diminutive 356 models must have seemed impossibly exotic” says Rory Lumsdon, PR Director Porsche Cars GB Ltd. “The excitement those first cars created has remained undimmed for three-quarters of a century – we Brits are united by our shared passion for Porsche. Sunstede was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate together.”
