911 Carrera S: The Manual Is Back!

Porsche Brings the Manual Transmission Back to the 911 Carrera S

Responding to strong customer demand, Porsche is bringing the six-speed manual transmission back to the 911 Carrera S in North America. The move expands the 992.2-generation Carrera S lineup, which initially launched exclusively with an eight-speed PDK transmission, with the new 911 Carrera S with MT Package.

Available exclusively in North America, the MT Package combines a higher level of standard equipment than the conventional Carrera S with a greater emphasis on analog driving and reduced weight. The formula builds on the approach established by the Carrera T, creating a more enthusiast-focused member of the Carrera family designed for winding back roads and drivers who prefer taking the long way home.

“As a lifelong driving enthusiast I’m personally excited to announce the return of the manual transmission to the Carrera S,” Timo Resch, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America said. “While some brands are abandoning the manual, we are proud to continue offering three pedals in a range of products that speaks to different use cases. Managing a clutch and shift lever isn’t for everyone, but for the drivers who want it there really is no substitute.”

With the arrival of the Carrera S with MT Package, Porsche now offers seven variants of the 911 with a conventional manual transmission in North America. The 911 Carrera T coupe and Cabriolet serve as the entry points to the manual-transmission range. At the other end of the lineup, the 911 GT3, 911 GT3 with Touring Package and 911 GT3 S/C pair a manual gearbox with motorsport-derived engines and chassis technology for a distinctly analog, enthusiast-focused driving experience.

Available in both coupe and Cabriolet form, the new 911 Carrera S with MT Package places driver engagement ahead of maximum acceleration while offering more power than the Carrera T and an extensive selection of personalization options.

Offered exclusively with rear-wheel drive, the Carrera S with MT Package comes standard with rear-axle steering, PASM Sport suspension that lowers the ride height by 10 mm, a walnut shift handle, the Sport Chrono Package and unique exhaust tuning.

Center-lock wheels are also standard, marking their first appearance on a 911 Carrera S model. Porsche says the wheels save more than 17 lbs. compared with the standard Carrera S wheels. Four-way Sport Seats Plus, titanium exhaust outlets with black trim and a SportDesign front fascia are also included. A red “S” model designation at the rear provides another visual distinction, a detail inspired by a modification favored by North American enthusiasts.

Customers looking for different seating configurations can choose optional 14-way Sport Seats, 18-way Sport Seats Plus or Folding Lightweight Bucket seats constructed from carbon fiber.

Power comes from Porsche’s 473-hp, 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, giving the new model a combination of straight-line performance and chassis balance intended to reward drivers on winding roads as well as during hard acceleration.

Despite its additional performance equipment, the 911 Carrera S coupe with MT Package has a curb weight of 3,327 lbs., just 11 lbs. more than the 911 Carrera T coupe.

As with other Carrera S variants, the standard braking system uses 408 mm cast-iron front discs and 380 mm rear discs, paired with six-piston fixed calipers at the front and four-piston fixed calipers at the rear. Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) are available as an option, as are carbon-fiber bucket seats for customers seeking additional weight savings. The availability of PCCB is another feature that separates the new model from the Carrera T.

Porsche is also offering the Carrera S with MT Package with the extensive range of interior and exterior personalization choices available across the broader 911 lineup. Buyers can select from 17 exterior colors, while Paint to Sample and Paint to Sample Plus will be offered subject to availability for customers seeking more individualized finishes.

Inside, more than 70 leather configurations are available, providing a broad selection of colors, materials and trim combinations. Optional exterior and interior packages further distinguish the manual Carrera S. The exterior package adds black HD-Matrix Design headlights with a white color ring, wheels finished in Ceramica, a red “S” in the rear model designation, white PORSCHE lettering at the rear and lower side-view mirror housings painted in the body color. Special puddle lights projecting the six-speed manual shift pattern are also included.

The corresponding interior package features Plaid Sport-Tex seat centers with Chalk stripes. The seat belts and stitching are coordinated with the seat stripes, while Ceramica interior trim is paired with black brushed-aluminum accents. The Sport Chrono clock on the dashboard receives a white accent ring, and the door sill guards are finished in brushed black aluminum.

Orders for the new 2027 Porsche 911 Carrera S with MT Package can be placed through 911 GT3 with Touring Package beginning today. Pricing starts at $167,100 for the coupe and $181,000 for the Cabriolet, excluding a $2,350 delivery, processing and handling fee.

Deliveries are expected to begin by the end of 2026. The manufacturer’s suggested retail prices exclude taxes, title, registration, optional or regionally required equipment and dealer charges.
