Singer-Commissioned 1990 Porsche 911 ‘Novato’ Crosses the Auction Block

Delivered new to its original owner in Novato, California, which inspired its name

Recognized as the standard-bearer for air-cooled Porsche 911 reinterpretations, Singer Group, Inc. has established itself as the leading restorer of reimagined 1989–1994 911s built on the 964 platform, each tailored to the exacting tastes of its clientele.

Singer’s Classic Services program—the cornerstone of its global reputation—marked the transition from hand-shaped clay forms to advanced carbon-fiber bodywork, comprehensively reengineered air-cooled engines, and exceptional craftsmanship throughout. Among the most significant commissions from this era is the “Novato,” scheduled to cross the block at RM Sotheby’s Arizona auction on January 23. Based on a U.S.-market 1990 Porsche 911, it was completed in February 2014 and delivered new to its owner in Novato, California, lending the car its name.

Finished in Dolphin Grey with subtle ghosted racing stripes and dark green “Porsche” script, the exterior is paired with a bespoke interior trimmed in Olive Green leather and suede-mix weave inserts in Olive Green and La Marinella. Carbon fiber is used extensively for the fenders, bumpers, hood, rear decklid, and roof, reducing weight while enhancing rigidity.

Inside, Olive Green leather dominates a cabin defined by Singer’s meticulous detailing. Four-way adjustable touring seats, door panels, and dashboard inserts are upholstered in woven suede-mix hides with Alabaster contrast stitching. The five-gauge instrument cluster combines black faces, cream numerals, and a vivid orange central tachometer, a clear nod to Porsche’s racing heritage. Modern conveniences such as Apple CarPlay are discreetly integrated, along with a leather-wrapped roll hoop.

Originally completed with a 3.8-liter engine, the car returned to Singer in March 2017 for a factory upgrade to 4.0 liters. The $40,000 conversion included a new crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, rings, intake plenum, and ECU recalibration, while a $10,000 upgrade added carbon-ceramic brake rotors. Handling is further sharpened by adjustable Öhlins dampers, and braking is handled by Brembo cross-drilled, ventilated discs. Staggered 17-inch Fuchs-style forged wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires complete the package.
