Market launch: 2019

The 991 Speedster was unveiled in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen by Porsche on June 8, 2018, on the 70th anniversary of the Porsche sports car production.
In 2017 the plan was to launch the Speedster as the swan-song for the 991-generation 911 in the second half of 2018, but in the beginning of 2018 problems rose with the implementation of the new Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure that all new cars had to correspond to starting from September 1, 2018. So, the plans for the production of the 991 Speedster were canceled. That's the reason why it was decided to unveil the 991 Speedster in June 2018 as a concept car. Later, when it was clear that 992 production is also postponed because of the delays in production schedule of all Porsche cars, on October 2, 2018, it was announced that the 991 Speedster get its chance and goes into production in 2019. And in big numbers! 1948 cars will be made, meaning bad news for speculators and good news for real car buyers - almost everyone who's ready to pay the list price, can get one.
The chassis and the manual 6-speed transmission came from the 991.2 GT3 4.0 and the 383 kW engine from the 991.2 GT3 RS. The 21" wheels in Fuchs design had centre locks for the first time and there were the new 21" cross-spoke wheels available. The characteristics of the 911 Speedster included the shorter window frame with a more inclined windscreen and correspondingly shortened side windows. As dictated by the historic original, the 911 Speedster concept also featured a light-weight tonneau cover instead of the convertible top. This cover protected the car interior from rain when parked, and was attached using eight Tenax fasteners.
