The 991 Speedster concept car was unveiled by Porsche on June 8, 2018, on the 70th anniversary of the Porsche sports car production.
While initially it was planned to launch the Speedster version as the swan-song for the 991-generation 911, there just is no production capacity for it because of the delays in production caused by the implementation of the new Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure that all new cars must correspond to starting from September 1, 2018.
The chassis and the manual 6-speed transmission of the almost production-ready 991 Speedster concept came from the 991.2 GT3 4.0 and the 383 kW engine from the 991.2 GT3 RS. The 21" wheels in Fuchs design have centre locks for the first time. The characteristics of the 911 Speedster include the shorter window frame with a more inclined windscreen and correspondingly shortened side windows. As dictated by the historic original, the 911 Speedster concept also features a light-weight tonneau cover instead of a convertible top. This cover protects the car interior from rain when parked, and is attached using eight Tenax fasteners.
