FOR SALE: 1994 Porsche 911 Speedster by Evomax

A one-off 964 Speedster

Listed for sale on Sotheby’s Motorsport, this extensively modified 1994 Porsche 911 Speedster combines rare air-cooled heritage, celebrity provenance, and substantial motorsport-inspired engineering. Originally one of 427 U.S.-market examples from the 964-generation Speedster production run, it was delivered new to seven-time National League MVP Barry Bonds before undergoing successive transformations by renowned Porsche specialists.

The 964 Speedster occupies a distinctive position in Porsche history, offering a stripped-back alternative to the Carrera Cabriolet without the uncompromising motorsport focus of the Carrera RS. Its defining features include a shortened, raked windshield, a sculpted double-bubble rear tonneau, and a lowered seating position that reinforces its purposeful character.

During Bonds’ ownership, this example was converted into a steel-bodied Mega Speedster by Vittorio Strosek. It subsequently received a comprehensive redesign by German specialist Evomax, completed in 2022. The resulting carbon-Kevlar bodywork is finished in Meissen Blue and incorporates dramatically flared fenders, integrated cooling ducts, exposed composite aerodynamic components, black-housed LED headlights, and a ducktail rear spoiler.

A light-grey convertible top sits beneath the body-colored double-bubble tonneau cover, while staggered 18-inch multi-piece Fuchs-style wheels wear Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Documentation records a curb weight of 2,580 pounds following its return from Europe, approximately 451 pounds below the original U.S.-specification Speedster figure.

Power comes from a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter M64 flat-six initially enlarged by Porsche specialist Andial and subsequently developed by S-Car-Go Racing in San Rafael, California. Its extensive internal modifications include a lightweight knife-edged crankshaft, titanium connecting rods, custom-ground racing camshafts, and ported and polished cylinder heads. Further upgrades comprise a Porsche 993 induction system, hot-wire airflow metering, B&B Tri-Flo headers, an S-Car-Go performance chip with a 7,100-rpm rev limit, and an HJS Motorsports exhaust system. Period invoices document more than $60,000 in engine development expenditures.

Unlike the original five-speed configuration, this Speedster employs a Porsche 993 six-speed manual transaxle, sending power to the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential. KW coilover suspension, Porsche 993 Turbo Big Red brake calipers, cross-drilled ventilated discs, and stainless-steel braided brake lines further enhance its performance potential.

The cabin combines bespoke oyster and light-grey leather upholstery with Porsche 918 carbon-fiber bucket seats featuring Evomax-embossed headrests. Exposed carbon-composite door panels, grey square-weave carpeting, and a custom leather-wrapped steering wheel reinforce the car’s competition-inspired character. Air conditioning, power windows, and Bluetooth audio provide additional convenience.

The mechanical odometer indicates approximately 2,216 miles accumulated since the Evomax conversion. Accompanying documentation includes historical ownership records, factory owner’s manuals, period calendars featuring the car, and a clean California title.
