Can the 1,067-hp Gunther Werks F26 conquer a lineup of legendary supercars?

Mat Watson and the carwow team put the extraordinary Gunther Werks F-26 through a demanding sequence of acceleration and braking challenges, matching the heavily reengineered Porsche 993 against increasingly formidable modern supercars. Conducted on a closed airfield, the tests examine not only straight-line performance but also traction, braking capability, gear changes, and the distinctive driving characteristics of a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive machine with enormous power.

At the heart of the F-26 is a extensively modified 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six derived from the Porsche 993 platform. Producing a staggering 1,067 horsepower and 1,017 Nm of torque, the engine drives the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. With extensive carbon-fiber construction throughout the body and other components, the car weighs just 1,347 kg. Limited to only 26 examples worldwide, the F26 occupies an exceptionally rare place among modern Porsche-based creations.

Its first opponent is the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, representing a very different approach to performance. The 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six produces 525 horsepower and 465 Nm, delivered to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Although significantly less powerful, the GT3 RS combines sophisticated launch control and rapid automated gear changes with a highly developed chassis, while weighing approximately 1,450 kg.

The next escalation brings Lamborghini’s Huracán Performante into the contest. Its naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 develops 640 horsepower and 600 Nm, with an all-wheel-drive system providing a major traction advantage. Despite its sophisticated drivetrain, the Lamborghini is also heavier than the F26 at approximately 1,482 kg.

With each new challenger raising the stakes, the F-26 faces an increasingly difficult test of its extraordinary power-to-weight advantage. Will its lightweight carbon-fiber construction, massive twin-turbo output, and raw rear-wheel-drive character be enough to overcome the traction and technology of modern supercars?
