FOR SALE: 2016 Porsche 911 R

Number 538 of just 991 units produced worldwide

For decades, Porsche has engineered every iteration of the 911 with an unwavering focus on driver engagement, but few models embody that philosophy as completely as the 911 R. Introduced in 2016 as one of the most purist and enthusiast-focused 911s ever built, the limited-production model quickly achieved modern collector status. Offered for sale on Bring a Trailer, this particular example is number 538 of just 991 units produced worldwide and remains in exceptional factory-original condition, having covered a mere 291 miles since new.

The car is presented in a striking white finish accented by signature red racing stripes and black side graphics featuring red Porsche lettering. Inside, the cabin combines motorsport-inspired functionality with premium craftsmanship. Lightweight carbon-fiber full bucket seats are trimmed in Tarpan Brown leather and feature classic Pepita houndstooth cloth inserts, along with embroidered “911 R” logos on the headrests.

Contrasting stitching enhances the interior throughout, extending across the center armrest, shift boot, and door panels. Ahead of the driver, a leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a traditional Porsche instrument cluster featuring a 225-mph speedometer, a 10,000-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges monitoring oil temperature, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. This example is also equipped with the optional Sport Chrono Package, adding a dashboard-mounted stopwatch for performance driving.

At the heart of the 911 R lies its defining feature: a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six borrowed from the GT3 RS, producing 500 horsepower and delivering the razor-sharp response enthusiasts crave. Unlike the GT3 of its era, however, the 911 R channels that power exclusively through a bespoke six-speed manual transmission developed specifically for the model.

Paired with a reinforced clutch and an optional single-mass flywheel, the setup delivers exceptionally immediate throttle response reminiscent of Porsche’s GT3 Cup race cars. The car also benefits from a host of GT3-derived performance technologies, including Porsche Active Suspension Management, Ceramic Composite Brakes with distinctive yellow calipers, rear-axle steering, and sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

Weight reduction played an equally important role in the 911 R’s development. To achieve its lightweight mission, Porsche equipped the car with a carbon-fiber hood and front fenders sourced from the GT3, while the magnesium roof panel was borrowed from the more extreme GT3 RS. Additional premium equipment includes an extended-range fuel tank, the Light Design Package, an aluminum-look fuel filler cap, voice control functionality, LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System, a front-axle lift system, and Sport Design auto-dimming mirrors with integrated rain sensors. Carbon-fiber interior trim further complements the model’s lightweight ethos, rounding out one of the most sought-after and uncompromising driver’s cars Porsche has ever produced.
