The Porsche 911 R was conceived as both a tribute to the brand’s driver-first heritage and a modern interpretation of the cars that built Porsche’s reputation. Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016, this ultra-limited model blended classic purity with contemporary performance.
Under the rear decklid sits the GT3 RS–derived 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six producing 500 horsepower, paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission. Purists could opt for a single-mass flywheel for sharper throttle response. While mechanically close to the GT3 RS, the 911 R ditched the oversized rear wing in favor of a cleaner look and featured revised suspension and steering tuning. Production was capped at just 991 units worldwide.
This example, number 740 of 991, currently listed on Bring a Trailer with only 3,885 miles and remains in exceptional condition. Finished in white with red stripes, it wears a special “BP World Record” livery honoring endurance records set by a 1967 911 R at Monza.
Inside, carbon-fiber bucket seats are upholstered in Tarpan Brown leather with Pepita inserts, silver seatbelts, and embroidered headrests. Carbon trim runs throughout the cabin alongside features such as climate control, Bose audio, PCM navigation, aluminum pedals, cruise control, a fire extinguisher, and detailed contrast stitching.
Performance hardware borrowed from the GT3 lineup includes active suspension, ceramic brakes with yellow calipers, rear-wheel steering, lightweight body panels, a magnesium roof, and 20-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin tires—making the 911 R a finely honed, driver-focused masterpiece.
