The 991-generation Porsche 911 GT2 RS marked the ultimate evolution of the rear-wheel-drive 911 and, when introduced, stood as the most powerful production 911 Porsche had ever built. Unveiled at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the GT2 RS paired a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six with formidable performance, producing 700 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque.
Power was delivered exclusively through Porsche’s seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission, enabling the GT2 RS to accelerate from 0–60 mph in just 2.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 211 mph. Yet outright speed represented only part of the engineering brief. Extensive aerodynamic development brought enlarged air intakes, NACA ducts integrated into the front luggage-compartment lid, and a prominent fixed rear wing, all designed to improve cooling and generate substantial downforce at speed.
The chassis was equally sophisticated. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), rear-axle steering, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) were fitted as standard, giving the GT2 RS a level of precision and capability that placed it among the most accomplished road-going 911s ever produced.
Porsche also engineered the car to withstand the considerable thermal demands of sustained high-speed driving. Larger turbochargers were complemented by a water-assisted charge-air cooling system, while a lightweight titanium exhaust reduced mass and gave the GT2 RS an appropriately distinctive voice.
For buyers seeking an even more focused specification, Porsche offered the optional Weissach Package, a comprehensive weight-reduction program drawing heavily on the company’s motorsport experience. Named for Porsche’s development center in Weissach, Germany, the package made extensive use of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic, including the roof, anti-roll bars, and suspension coupling rods.
Exposed carbon fiber throughout the exterior and cabin reinforced the car’s competition-derived character, while optional forged magnesium wheels reduced both overall and unsprung mass. In its lightest configuration, the Weissach Package removed approximately 30 kilograms compared with a standard GT2 RS. More than a collection of lightweight materials, the package reflected Porsche’s methodical pursuit of reduced mass and sharper responses, further improving an already exceptional power-to-weight ratio.
The GT2 RS soon demonstrated the effectiveness of that engineering at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Porsche factory driver Nick Tandy and development driver Lars Kern recorded a lap of 6 minutes, 47.3 seconds, establishing a production-car lap record. The achievement was particularly significant given the GT2 RS’s rear-wheel-drive configuration, demonstrating Porsche’s ability to deploy 700 horsepower through the traditional 911 layout with remarkable effectiveness. In doing so, the GT2 RS established itself as a benchmark among the era’s highest-performing road cars.
This 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS is finished in Racing Yellow over a Black leather and Alcantara interior accented by Platinum Grey stitching. Delivered new through Fred Lavery Porsche of Birmingham, Michigan, in November 2018, it was specified with the highly desirable Weissach Package and optional forged magnesium center-lock wheels.
Its extensive factory specification also includes LED headlights in Black with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), a front-axle lift system, the Chrono Package with lap-trigger preparation, an extended-range 23.7-gallon fuel tank, automatically dimming mirrors, the Light Design Package, Smoking Package, fire extinguisher, Racing Yellow seat belts, and the Extended Deviating Stitching Interior Package. Further appointments include a leather-trimmed steering-column casing with deviating stitching, illuminated carbon-fiber door-sill guards, and a Bose Surround Sound System.
The GT2 RS remained with its original owner until 2024, when it passed to a Florida-based collector. Remarkably, it accumulated very little mileage under either stewardship. An accompanying CARFAX Vehicle History Report documents an accident-free history, while records show extensive time-based service performed by Bert Smith Euro Collection in St. Petersburg, Florida, in July 2024. At the time, the odometer indicated just 68 miles from new.
Showing only 132 miles at the time of cataloging and accompanied by its books and delivery accessories, this exceptionally preserved GT2 RS combines extraordinary originality, minimal use, and one of the most desirable factory configurations available. Equipped with the Weissach Package and magnesium wheels, it represents a particularly compelling example of the car that defined the outer limits of the 991-generation 911.
