The Porsche 356 B Carrera GS/GT “Dreikantschaber” is one of the is one of the rarest competition cars developed by Porsche’s racing department. Its low profile stems partly from the fact that only two examples were built, and partly because it was conceived as a temporary solution rather than a full production racer. Unlike the Porsche 550 models before it or the later fiberglass-bodied racers of the 1960s, the Dreikantschaber stood alone. Even so, it played a meaningful role in Porsche’s steady climb toward international motorsport success.
This rare machine is seen in action in a video by Italiansupercarvideo, featuring chassis number 122991. Owned by Porsche and restored in 2010, the car was brought directly from the Stuttgart museum and filmed at the Austrian Legends Grand Prix at the Salzburgring. The onboard footage is driven by former Porsche factory driver Rudi Lins, whose career included major endurance and hill climb successes during the 1960s.
The car itself features an aluminum body built by Wendler before final assembly at Porsche. Power comes from Ernst Fuhrmann’s 2.0-liter air-cooled flat-four producing 160 horsepower, paired with a four-speed gearbox. Weighing just 820 kg, it reached 235 km/h. On track, it quickly proved its worth, scoring strong overall finishes and multiple GT 2000 class victories at events such as the Targa Florio, Nürburgring 1000 km, and the 12 Hours of Daytona.
