The Porsche Club of America showcases a 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.0, one of only 56 built, making it rarer than the iconic 1973 RS. This Mexico Blue, left-hand-drive example features handmade, irregularly shaped fender flares, a Carrera-style rear tail, and a 3.0-liter engine producing around 300 horsepower.
Unlike the high-volume 1973 RS, the ’74 was built more for racing enthusiasts, with many delivered as street-legal race-ready cars, including factory-installed roll cages. Variations in production meant some cars had aluminum or fiberglass hoods, adding to their uniqueness.
Visually similar to an RSR, the RS 3.0 can be distinguished by slightly larger flares, while under the hood, RS models used aluminum cases versus the RSR’s magnesium. Weighing just over 2,000 pounds, it delivers a raw, analog driving experience with excellent power-to-weight ratio.
Once overlooked and moderately affordable, the 1974 RS has become highly sought-after among collectors, prized for its rarity, documented provenance, and authentic driving feel—a true driver’s Porsche that stands out even among the most coveted 911s.
