The Porsche 911 GT2 made its debut with the 993 generation, marking the peak of air-cooled 911 performance. Essentially a race car in disguise, this homologation special was engineered to dominate GT2-class competition. By the time Porsche shifted its focus to the GT3 category in the early 2000s, the next iteration—the 996-generation GT2—emerged as a more approachable, though no less intimidating, road-oriented machine.

While more civilized than the original, the 996 GT2 delivered genuine supercar credentials. Powered by a 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six derived from the 911 Turbo and tuned for an extra 10 percent output, it produced an immense 462 horsepower sent directly to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.

The result was a blistering performance, with a top speed exceeding 318 km/h and 0–100 km/h acceleration in approximately four seconds. Its menacing presence was enhanced by a reworked front fascia, flared arches, and a massive fixed rear wing.

The folks from AutoTopNL recently took a Porsche 996 GT2 to the German Autobahn, and as usual, they drove it to its limits to see how fast it could go. On an unrestricted stretch, the car managed to reach an impressive 332 km/h—an astonishing feat for a supercar now more than 20 years old.
