The Porsche 996 GT2 is known for two things: it’s swift and it requires total driver focus and skill, especially at high speeds on the German Autobahn, as demonstrated by AutoTopNL on YouTube. Based on the 996 Turbo, the GT2 produces approximately 50 more horsepower and weighs 220 pounds less, thanks to its rear-wheel-drive setup replacing the Turbo’s all-wheel-drive configuration.

But specs alone don’t capture what sets the GT2 apart. Unlike the standard Turbo, the GT2 comes without electronic driver aids, such as Porsche Stability Management or active aerodynamics. There’s no sunroof, as it would interfere with airflow to the fixed rear wing, and no automatic transmission—only a 6-speed manual, in line with Porsche’s purist philosophy.

In 2003, the GT2 was the fastest 911 in the lineup, capable of 198 mph. Visually, it stands out with a unique front bumper featuring a prominent skid plate, large cooling cutouts, and a horizontal vent designed to boost front downforce.

In the video, a 2003 GT2 tears down the Autobahn, hitting an impressive 332 km/h (206 mph)—a stunning achievement for a car now over 20 years old.
