Chris Harris evaluates the 992-generation GT3 by running in a brand-new example on the road before pushing it hard on track. The car’s 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six produces 510 hp and revs to 9,000 rpm, delivering a race-car-like soundtrack and razor-sharp throttle response. Harris notes that while peak power gains are small over the previous GT3, performance remains more than sufficient for a road car.
The biggest technical change is the new double-wishbone front suspension, a first for a road-going 911 GT3. It significantly improves front-end grip, steering precision, and cornering stability while also allowing stiffer spring rates without sacrificing ride quality. Rear-wheel steering and improved aerodynamics further enhance agility and high-speed stability.
On the road, the 992.1 GT3 feels firm at low speeds but becomes more composed as pace increases. Despite its track focus, it remains usable for longer drives, with impressive damping and stability at motorway speeds. On track, the GT3 shines with superb braking, sharp turn-in, and excellent balance. The engine’s high-revving character and strong traction make it deeply engaging, even if it’s not the fastest in a straight line compared to turbocharged rivals.
