Balance was just one of the fascinating aspects to this chapter in the Porsche legacy
Half a century ago…
Porsche engineers embraced the idea of balance more than 50 years ago while developing a new sports car layout at the Weissach Development Centre. Their transaxle design—placing the engine up front and the transmission at the rear—created near-perfect weight distribution. The concept debuted in the Porsche 924 in 1976, followed by the Porsche 928 in 1977, the Porsche 944 in 1981, and the Porsche 968 in 1991, establishing an era of engineering that remains influential today.
