Porsche Of The Day: 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster “Anziano Illuzion”

This 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster pays homage to the original 356 Speedster, featuring a distinctive short, sharply angled windscreen and a unique double-bubble rear tonneau cover. Among the 2,065 units produced, only 823 were sold in the United States. In the late 1990s, Bob Anziano’s Bad Boy Cars of Santa Ana, California, transformed this 911 Speedster into a custom “Anziano Illuzion.”

The custom modifications include widened fenders and rocker panels with built-in air intakes, a 993-style nose section with a bespoke sculpted hood and bumper, Porsche 993 headlights and taillights, 993 side mirrors, custom flush door handles, and an integrated body-colored spoiler with air scoops above the rear fenders. The car is finished in Arctic Silver and rides on aftermarket 18″ Kinesis three-piece wheels.

Inside, the cabin features a pair of grey leather 993 Sport Seats, custom door panels, a painted center console, and instrument panel, a leather-wrapped dashboard, and white instrument dials with an “Anziano’s” logo on the tachometer. A custom sound system, complete with upgraded speakers, an amplifier, and an aftermarket head unit, has also been installed.

Powering this Speedster is a modified air-cooled 3.0-liter 911SC flat-six engine. It’s equipped with a turbocharger and an oversized intercooler, delivering a claimed output of 303 horsepower. The rear wheels are driven by a 5-speed G50 manual transaxle.
