Porsche 992.2 GTS T Hybrid: The 911 goes hybrid!

Electric motors and eTurbos thrust this 911 into the future

In 2010 Porsche introduced the 997 GTS. Reprising a theme first seen on the Cayenne, the GTS was initially derided by some Porsche observers as an end of line ‘parts bin special.’ The critics were a little too quick off the mark. In a mere year and a half’s production, 4400 911 GTSs were sold and program manager August Achtleitner described demand as “overwhelming.” ‘Parts bin’ it might have been, but the 997 GTS turned out to be rather greater than the sum of those parts: a highly specified 997S with individual features such its own front spoiler and twin exhausts, 19inch wheels from the 997 Spyder and a cabin upholstered in Alcantara. Above all, it was also fitted with the Powerkit (normally a $17,000 extra) which increased power to 402bhp. This combination of extras would have cost more than the GTS’s retail price if added to the purchase of a Carrera 997S, a fact not lost on buyers.
