Marcus Amand Claims Maiden Porsche Supercup Victory

Marcus Amand claimed his first Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup victory in only his fifth start in the international one-make series, converting pole position into a commanding lights-to-flag win at the Hungaroring. After 16 laps, the Porsche Junior crossed the finish line just under one second ahead of Chester Kieffer. The Luxembourger also scored his second consecutive Rookie-class victory, while Dutch driver Wouter Boerekamps completed the podium in third. Former Formula 1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve, competing in the series’ VIP car, finished 20th.

Four weeks earlier at the Red Bull Ring, a puncture had denied Amand what appeared likely to be his first Supercup victory. At the Hungaroring, near the Hungarian capital of Budapest, there was no such disappointment. The France-based Finn delivered a controlled performance in the BWT Lechner Racing Porsche 911 Cup, dictating the pace from the front throughout the race. Only Kieffer was able to stay close to the Porsche Junior, but the Schumacher CLRT driver never had a realistic opportunity to challenge for the lead.

Wouter Boerekamps made the strongest start among the leading contenders. Starting fourth, the Dutchman immediately attacked, but Amand and Kieffer successfully defended their positions. Boerekamps did, however, manage to get ahead of Flynt Schuring and settled into third. The GP Elite driver maintained the position to the finish, crossing the line eight seconds behind the leading pair.

Schuring’s race ended almost as soon as it began. The Porsche Junior suffered a puncture following contact immediately after the start and was forced to retire at the Schumacher CLRT pit box. Despite the retirement, Schuring retained the championship lead. Rookie Jack Young produced his best Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup result to date with a fourth-place finish. The Target driver spent much of the race under pressure from Robert de Haan, who had charged from ninth on the grid to fifth in his BWT Lechner Racing Porsche 911 Cup.

On the Hungaroring’s demanding and twisting layout, however, passing opportunities were scarce. With track temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, de Haan also placed considerable strain on his tires and was ultimately unable to find a way past Young. Kieffer’s runner-up finish also earned him his second consecutive victory in the Rookie classification. Brazilian Matheus Ferreira of GP Elite finished second among the Rookies, with Britain’s Liam McNeilly of Ombra Racing taking third. The result moved Kieffer into the lead of the overall Rookie standings.

Villeneuve endured an eventful afternoon in the Supercup VIP car. The Canadian lost several positions immediately after the start but responded with a series of overtaking moves as the race progressed. The former Formula 1 World Champion ultimately took the checkered flag in 20th place.

Albrecht Reimold, Member of the Executive Board for Production and Logistics at Porsche AG, presented the trophies following the race and praised the performance of the championship’s young drivers.

Once again, the race at the Hungaroring demonstrated why the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup is such a valuable step on the path to becoming a professional racing driver.” The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup returns Aug. 21-23, 2026, with a double-header at Circuit Zandvoort in the Netherlands. The weekend will host rounds six and seven of the championship.

“It was extremely tight into the first corner. Fortunately, I managed to hold onto the lead. Once the early Safety Car period ended, I quickly built a gap of around one second. After that, the priority was simply to manage my tyres and avoid overheating.”

Chester Kieffer (LUX/Schumacher CLRT), 2nd place, Rookie winner:

“Overtaking at the Hungaroring is extremely difficult. Following Marcus, my main focus was therefore on preventing both my tyres and brakes from overheating. I’m very proud to have taken the lead in the Rookie classification, and I’m determined to defend it during the upcoming double-header at Zandvoort.”

“My start was mega. For a moment, even the lead was within reach. But Marcus and Chester closed the door cleanly, so I had to slot into third place. Strangely enough, my Porsche suffered from significant oversteer, particularly through the middle sector. So I quickly lost contact with the two drivers ahead.”
