This 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo by Kaege Retro combines the engineering foundations of the 993-generation 911 Turbo with extensive bespoke modifications inspired by earlier air-cooled Porsche models. Currently offered on Bring a Trailer, this rest-of-world (RoW) specification coupe features backdated carbon-fiber bodywork, a comprehensively customized interior, and an upgraded twin-turbocharged flat-six advertised to produce 510 horsepower. Modified by Kaege Retro of Stetten, Germany, in 2020, the car is identified as number four in the builder’s series.
Finished in Firn White with green bodyside stripes, the coupe adopts a distinctive RS-inspired design that contrasts with the original 993 Turbo’s more contemporary 1990s styling. Kaege Retro fabricated carbon-fiber body panels incorporating flared fenders and quarter panels, early-style chrome rear bumperettes, and H4-look LED headlights.
Additional details include a carbon-fiber front spoiler, rocker panels and rear valance, chrome exterior trim, bullet-style mirrors, LED taillights, and a ducktail rear spoiler. The result combines vintage 911 visual cues with modern materials and bespoke detailing. The car rides on 18-inch, three-piece Fuchs-style wheels with polished lips and black centers, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires measuring 225/40 at the front and 285/30 at the rear. KW sport suspension components, a front strut-tower brace, and the factory-style 993 Turbo braking hardware with cross-drilled rotors support its performance-oriented configuration.
The cabin pairs Nephrite Green leather with green, black, and white Pepita cloth inserts, creating a period-inspired environment that complements the exterior. Recaro Pole Position bucket seats feature green microsuede backs, while matching leather extends across the door panels and dashboard. A body-color, backdated dashboard reinforces the classic 911 aesthetic.
Equipment includes a Porsche Classic infotainment system, power windows, air conditioning, dual airbags, German Maestro speakers, and USB and auxiliary connectivity. A padded Heigo roll bar replaces the rear seats, while a Hanhart timer mounted on a chrome plaque adds a motorsport-oriented detail. The green leather-trimmed steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation, including a Kaege-branded tachometer with a 7,600-rpm redline and a 300-km/h speedometer.
Power comes from the 3.6-liter, twin-turbocharged and intercooled flat-six, reportedly ordered with Porsche’s factory X50 Turbo Power Kit before receiving further modifications from Kaege Retro. An aftermarket engine control unit, revised cooling system, custom exhaust, and carbon-fiber-trimmed intercooler contribute to an advertised output of 510 horsepower. A six-speed manual transaxle, limited-slip differential, and all-wheel-drive system deliver power to the road. This configuration preserves the mechanical character of the original 993 Turbo while offering a substantial increase over the standard model’s factory-rated 400 horsepower.
However, prospective buyers should note an important ownership consideration: the car does not have catalytic converters and cannot pass a California emissions test or CARB inspection in its current configuration. The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage from its first recorded entry in June 2024.
