First unveiled as the Gruppe B Concept at the 1983 Frankfurt Auto Show and entering production in 1985, the 959 redefined the limits of performance and technology, earning its place alongside icons such as the Ferrari F40 and Lamborghini Countach.
One of only 292 examples built, this 1988 Porsche 959 Komfort was completed in July 1987 and is finished in its factory colors of Polar Silver over a rare tri-tone Dark Grey full leather interior, with Silver wheels, heated seats, and an alarm system. It shows just 2,011 miles at the time of cataloguing.
Since then has been extensively upgraded by leading specialist Canepa Design of Scotts Valley, California, to Phase II specification. The upgrade centers on a Garrett twin-turbo system with ball-bearing turbines and redesigned wastegates with titanium heat shields, supported by blueprinted valve springs, optimized timing, and a modern fuel system managed by an advanced engine control unit with an F1-inspired wiring harness.
Further enhancements include Canepa’s suspension conversion, replacing the original electronically adjustable system with gas struts and titanium coil-over springs, along with re-engineered factory wheels to accept modern Z-rated tires. A stainless-steel exhaust integrates the original catalytic converters with a dash-controlled bypass for increased power and a more aggressive sound. Canepa claims approximately 640 horsepower, a 0–60 mph time of three seconds, and a 222 mph top speed.
Recently, the car underwent a light recommissioning by respected performance specialist Fast Cars Ltd. of Redondo Beach, California. Major mechanical components were inspected and the vehicle was brought to optimal operating condition. The car is offered with its tool roll and owner’s manual and will be auctioned at Arizona on 23 January 2026 by RM Sotheby’s with an estimate of $1,800,000–$2,200,000.
