Porsche is one of the most accomplished carmakers in history, with victories across nearly every major sports car and prototype racing category and a legacy of producing some of the world’s most recognizable performance machines. Though Porsche rarely ventured into true supercar territory, each effort left a major mark. The 1970s delivered the dominant 911 Carrera RS; the 1980s introduced the groundbreaking, turbocharged 959; and the early 2000s brought the raw, V10-powered Carrera GT, now regarded as a modern icon.
After the Carrera GT, Porsche returned to the supercar stage with the 918 Spyder. The 918 combined a naturally aspirated 4.6-liter V8 with a sophisticated hybrid system that added 280 electric horsepower. With all-wheel drive, rear-axle steering, and energy-recapture technology, the car achieved immense speed, reaching 0–60 mph in just 2.2 seconds.
Porsche capped 918 Spyder production at 918 units, with 297 allocated to the United States. Among the remaining cars, this example (chassis 232) was delivered new to Saudi Arabia sporting a Meteor Grey Metallic finish with Acid Green brake calipers and badging. It was ordered with the sought-after Weissach Package, a costly option that reduced weight by 41 kilograms.
This package added a more aggressive rear diffuser and extensive carbon-fiber components, including the roof panels, windscreen surround, active rear wing, and mirrors. Additional aerodynamic upgrades included carbon-fiber blades and flaps behind the front wheels. Mechanical improvements featured a titanium-enhanced braking system, ceramic wheel bearings, and a carbon-fiber-reinforced rear stabilizer.
Weissach-equipped cars are the most desirable 918 Spyders, as this specification enabled the model to achieve its 6:57 Nürburgring lap time. This example was later fitted in Zuffenhausen with the polished 20/21-inch wheels traditionally associated with the model. Inside, the car is trimmed in Onyx Black leather with extensive gloss carbon fiber and Acid Green accents throughout. Options include a Burmester audio system, front-axle lift, and a cupholder.
It comes with charging equipment, a car cover, Schroth harnesses, and shows just 1,597 kilometers as it is set to cross the block at RM Sotheby’s upcoming Abu Dhabi auction on December 5 with an estimate of up to $2 million.
