61st Rolex 24 at Daytona starts new GTP era

After months of anticipation, the 61st Rolex 24 at Daytona ushered in the new GTP era and the racing debut of the Porsche 963.  Porsche partnered with Penske and had logged thousands of miles of testing.  Cadillac, Acura, and BMW brought their own designs to contest a new hybrid era of IMSA racing. Porsche may have been a fan favorite but did not figure into the overall results after 24 hours.  At the checkered flag, a pair of Acuras took the top two positions followed by a trio of Cadillacs.  Two factory backed Porsches finished seventh and eighth out of nine GTP entries.
