Rory Reid reviews the 992-generation Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition, a limited-run model that blends modern 911 performance with styling inspired by Porsche sports cars of the 1950s and ’60s. Limited to 992 units, it’s essentially a standard Targa 4S with unique cosmetic details, including gold badges, retro decals, special wheels, and historic design cues inspired by early models like the Porsche 356.
Inside, the Heritage Edition stands out with two-tone leather and corduroy seat inserts, a material historically used by Porsche for comfort and grip. Additional touches include green gauge markings, special badging, and vintage-inspired trim that give the cabin a distinctive retro feel.
Performance is unchanged from the standard Targa 4S, with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six producing 450 hp and all-wheel drive providing strong traction. Acceleration is quick, and the steering remains precise and engaging, though the Targa’s extra weight makes it less agile than the coupe. The suspension is slightly softer, making it more comfortable but less sharp in corners.
Reid praises the iconic Targa roof mechanism and everyday usability but notes wind noise with the roof open and questions the added cost. While the Heritage Design Edition offers unique styling and collectibility, he concludes that most buyers would be better off with the standard Targa 4S unless they specifically want the retro touches.
