Henry Catchpole reviews the Porsche 992 Sport Classic, a retro-inspired special edition that pays tribute to classic 911s like the Carrera RS 2.7. Its heritage styling includes a ducktail spoiler, double-bubble roof, classic wheels, gold badging, and a vintage-themed interior with Pepita fabric and wood trim.
Unlike the earlier Sport Classic, this version is mechanically distinctive. It uses the 3.7-liter turbocharged flat-six from the Turbo, paired with rear-wheel drive and a seven-speed manual, producing 542 hp. It’s the most powerful manual 911 road car, though torque is reduced compared with the Turbo. Performance is strong, but the character is more grand tourer than track-focused machine.
On the road, the car feels solid and planted with compliant ride quality and stable handling aided by rear-wheel steering. It’s quick and refined rather than aggressive, making it easy to cover long distances comfortably.
While its looks and exclusivity stand out, Catchpole suggests a manual rear-drive GTS offers a more engaging drive for less money, even if the Sport Classic remains a unique and charismatic collector’s piece.
