JayEmm on Cars reviews the second-generation 997.2 Porsche 911 Turbo, highlighting its 3.8-liter urbocharged flat-six engine with 500 hp (516 lb-ft with overboost) and the revolutionary seven-speed PDK gearbox, replacing the old Tiptronic.
Visually similar to the 997.1, the facelift is subtle, but mechanically the changes are significant. The 997.2 Turbo feels narrower and more agile than its width suggests, with smooth, tractable power delivery and comfortable ride quality, though road noise is noticeable.
The early PDK is inconsistent—shifts are slow in normal mode and harsh in Sport Plus. Handling shows excellent grip but a slight disconnection at the front end makes it feel less precise than a 997.1 or GT3, though it excels in straight-line pace. Interior is functional but unexciting, featuring black leather, basic displays, and Sport Chrono options.
Priced reasonably compared to GT3s, the 997.2 offers a capable, fast, and comfortable experience, but JayEmm notes it lacks some of the engagement and “magic” of earlier 911 Turbos. After filming, an alignment issue was fixed, suggesting potential for improved handling.
