In 2004, RUF introduced its first in-house creation, the Rt12. Although it appeared similar to a modified Porsche 997, it was a wholly unique machine beneath the surface. Based on the wide-body shell of the 997 Carrera, the Rt12 featured a 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six derived from the M96 engine, paired with a custom RUF transaxle and limited-slip differential, sending power to massive rear tires.
The car was equipped with RUF’s proprietary hydraulic suspension, including a front axle lift system and powerful brakes—eight-piston calipers in front and four-piston in the rear—within OZ Superleggera wheels. Lightweight carbon fiber panels were used for the bumpers, hood, and rear decklid. Inside, a hidden roll cage complemented a luxurious, Porsche-level interior. With optional tall gearing, the Rt12 could exceed 224 mph. Highly exclusive, fewer than 15 units were built over its five-year run, each tailored to its owner.
One of them is currently offered for sale on Bring a Trailer. This 2005 example is finished in Blood Orange and comes with unique styling elements like redesigned front and rear valances, rear-fender air intakes, and a power-retractable rear wing. It rides on 19-inch RUF wheels and features Öhlins coilovers with RUF’s Dual Ride Height System.
Inside, black leather bucket seats are accented with orange stitching, matching the interior panels and dashboard. A Pioneer Carrozzeria touchscreen, heated seat controls, and climate control are also included. The rear seats were omitted in favor of a RUF Integrated Roll Cage. Power is provided by an upgraded 3.8-liter engine that produces 650 horsepower, delivered through a G96/50 manual gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system with a limited-slip rear differential.
