Raw Sound Of A 1964 Porsche 904 Carrera GTS Will Give You Goosebumps

The Porsche 904 is widely regarded by many Porsche enthusiasts as the greatest road-going Porsche of all time. While it set the standard for a whole generation of racing Porsches, its aesthetic appeal overshadowed the fact that it lacked aerodynamic perfection and carried excess weight.

Additionally, due to caution regarding the untried 911-based engine, the 904 utilized the aging but reliable 180 horsepower Carrera four-cam unit. Despite its imperfections, the 904 proved to be a robust vehicle, featuring a sleek glass fiber body attached to a sheet steel double-box chassis. Its performance was effective enough to reestablish Porsche’s competitiveness in the two-liter class.

The 904 featured in this video from Revs Institute was the one that raced in the 1964 Sebring race while being driven by Briggs Cunningham and Lake Underwood. Watch as race driver Gunnar Jeannette takes this legendary race car for a lap around Palm Beach International Raceway!
