The Interserie championship was established in 1970 as the European equivalent of the Can-Am series in North America. Known as the ‘European Can-Am’, the Interserie replaced the Nordic Challenge Cup (NCC), which ran in 1969 in Finland and Sweden. While the NCC consisted of only three races in that year, the Interserieran twice as many races in its debut year.
