Gunther Werks, a leader in precision-engineered, high-performance automotive design, recently unveiled the newest addition to its exclusive lineup of bespoke vehicle programs. “GWX” is the latest evolution of the performance specialists’ remastering of the Porsche 993 platform, positioning itself at the absolute apex of Gunther Werks’ offerings.
With a minimal production run of only three planned builds, the new GWX is a truly exclusive offering from Gunther Werks. Compounding that exclusivity even further is that it is an invite-only program.
The GWX builds upon Gunther Werks’ current platforms, but separates itself with new performance levels and technological advancements. At the heart of the GWX is an evolution of the proven Coupe motor, incorporating some of the latest Gunther Werks technology introduced for the GWR engine.
The second-generation GWX 4.0-liter flat-six produces 440 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque, but unlike previous builds, it utilizes advanced sliding throttle body plates. The result is a razor-sharp throttle response at all inputs and vastly improved airflow at wide-open throttle, as there is no longer any part of the throttle plate blocking airflow. A new drive-by-wire throttle system was custom-developed to support this slide valve technology.
GWX Exclusives
Further separation from previous offerings includes completely bespoke carbon-fiber body panels exclusive to the GWX. Optimized to enhance aerodynamics and improve downforce, the specialized body parts include:
- GWX carbon-fiber vented front fenders
- GWX carbon-fiber rear quarter panels
- GWX carbon-fiber flared side skirts
- GWX carbon-fiber front hood
- GWX carbon-fiber Race Edition front bumper
- GWX carbon-fiber vented rear bumper with diffuser
- GWX carbon-fiber frame-mounted rear wing with decklid ram air scoop
Adding to the rarity and visual appeal of the Gunther Werks GWX is a special paint that covers its unique body. Developed in-house by Gunther Werks, the specialized Candy Purple hue is exclusive to the GWX and unavailable on other offerings. Silver pinstriping and an exposed herringbone carbon-fiber weave down the center of the hood, roof, and tail of the GWX provide further singularity. To further enhance chassis rigidity, the rear chassis bracing technology developed for the Turbo was incorporated into the GWX platform.
