Based in Huntington Beach, California, Gunther Werks specializes in reimagining the air-cooled Porsche 993, crafting modern interpretations of what the 911 might have become if production had continued beyond 1998. Each car features extensive use of carbon fiber—from the body panels to structural components—paired with a custom-developed suspension system that includes active coilovers, revised geometry, lightweight uprights, and a hydraulic lift system.
The original 3.6-liter flat-six engine is rebuilt by Rothsport Racing into a 4.0-liter unit with forged internals, individual throttle bodies, a MoTec engine management system, and race-grade components, producing over 430 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque through a strengthened Getrag G50 gearbox.
The Speedster variant uses a 993 Cabriolet base reinforced with carbon fiber and aluminum components, an integrated roll cage, and structural enhancements that double chassis stiffness without adding weight, resulting in a lighter, stronger, and faster open-top 911 reinterpretation.
Only 25 Speedsters were made and one of them is currently up for sale on Bring a Trailer with only 191 miles on the odometer. This examples is finished in yellow pearl with ghosted side stripes and blue “Porsche” lettering, protected by paint film on the front bodywork. It features a carbon-fiber front splitter with a skid plate, a ducktail spoiler with a ram air scoop, and lightweight components including carbon-fiber and aluminum headlight housings, nickel-plated mirrors and door handles, and twin rear exhaust tips.
Built without a roof or side windows, it sits on widened front and rear tracks with reinforced chassis bracing and dark gray 18-inch forged wheels wrapped in 295/30 and 335/30 Continental tires. Brembo GTR brakes with six-piston fronts and four-piston rears provide stopping power.
The interior combines tan leather, teal Alcantara, and satin carbon fiber with brushed aluminum trim. Highlights include carbon-fiber bucket seats, a milled aluminum shifter, forged pedals, a Porsche Classic Radio, and a carbon-fiber-lined front trunk.
