Some Porsches are special from the moment they leave Stuttgart. Others become extraordinary after a visit to Alois Ruf’s workshop in Pfaffenhausen. The 1994 Porsche 911 Speedster transformed into a RUF RCT Evo is emphatically in the latter category.
Originally one of just 936 examples of the 964-generation Speedster, this remarkable machine combines the Speedster’s unmistakable silhouette with RUF’s relentless pursuit of performance. Its chopped windshield, distinctive double-humped rear tonneau and low-slung stance already make a compelling statement. Finished in Ferrari Rosso Mugello, with carbon-fiber bodywork and purposeful 19-inch center-lock wheels, it looks positively menacing.
But the real fireworks happen behind the driver…
RUF’s turbocharged 3.6-liter air-cooled flat-six produces a formidable 425 horsepower, delivered to the rear wheels through the company’s six-speed manual gearbox. Revised suspension geometry, modern coilovers and substantial carbon-ceramic brakes ensure the chassis can exploit that power. The result is a wonderfully improbable marriage of classic 911 character and contemporary supercar performance.
Inside, the transformation is equally meticulous. Black leather and Alcantara, contrasting red stitching, red carpeting and RUF instrumentation create an environment that feels bespoke without sacrificing the 964’s wonderfully analog personality.
What makes this Speedster particularly fascinating is its evolution. Born in 1994, it underwent an extensive RUF restoration in 2015 before returning for its remarkable RCT Evo transformation in 2024. It is not a forgotten factory special, but something arguably more intriguing: a vintage Porsche continually refined by one of Germany’s most respected performance specialists.
With the roof down, the turbocharger singing and that air-cooled six-cylinder soundtrack filling the cockpit, the appeal is irresistible.
This is not simply a faster Speedster. It is the Speedster reimagined without compromise.
