In the early 1990s, Porsche focused on showcasing its new 964 Carreras globally in racing. The company developed track-ready versions for both rear- and all-wheel-drive cars. A limited run of 22 “lightweight” all-wheel-drive C4 coupes was produced, and the Carrera 2 served as the foundation for the successful 964 Carrera Cup and its road-legal counterpart, the Carrera RS. Following these, the N/GT was introduced for BPR’s Group N and ADAC’s race series, equipped with the M003 package for track readiness.

The 964 Carrera RS N/GT, the purest form of the model, was designed as a lightweight, competition-ready homologation special based on the 964 Cup car. It carried the option code M003, providing additional weight savings compared to the standard Carrera RS, along with features such as a Matter roll cage, Nomex bucket seats, Schroth safety harnesses, a larger fuel tank, a fire extinguisher, and an emergency cutoff switch.

This 1992 example, currently offered on PCARMARKET, is one of just 290 N/GT versions ever produced and is reportedly one of only 38 finished in Rubystone Red by the factory. It rolls on 17” Cup Design magnesium wheels with “RS” logo center caps and Michelin Pilot Sport tires.

The interior of the Carrera RS N/GT is stripped of rear seats, sound-deadening material, and carpeting. Plywood floorboards replace carpet mats, and lightweight door panels feature manual window cranks and red cloth pull straps. Factory equipment includes a full Matter roll cage, Nomex-upholstered Recaro bucket seats, Schroth 6-point safety harnesses, a passenger footwell-mounted fire extinguisher, and an emergency battery cutoff switch next to the headlight knob.

Similar to the Carrera RS, the N/GT version boasts a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter M64/03 flat-six engine with hand-selected pistons and cylinders, solid rubber mounts, a lightweight single mass flywheel, and revised ECU programming. Up to 260 HP is transmitted to the rear wheels through a close-ratio G50/10 5-speed manual transaxle with a racing clutch and a ZF limited-slip differential.
