In 2009, Rob Dickinson—a musician and lifelong Porsche enthusiast—founded Singer in Los Angeles, using the air-cooled 964 as the foundation for his vision of the ultimate 911. What began as a personal pursuit evolved into a benchmark for reimagined restorations, transforming the Type 964 into bespoke creations that surpass traditional restomods. Singer’s original work, now known as Classic Study, established the brand’s philosophy: every detail matters.
With demand for that series now closed, the company has expanded into a new chapter—Classic Turbo—focused on the iconic 930 Turbo. Initiated by a client’s suggestion, the Classic Turbo project reinterprets the wide-bodied, whale-tailed legend with modern materials and obsessive craftsmanship. Still based on the 964, each build features a 3.8L twin-turbo Mezger engine producing 450 or 500 horsepower, paired with a six-speed manual and rear-wheel drive.
One of their striking examples of the Classic Turbo is currently offered for sale at RM Sotheby’s. Known as ‘The East Hampton Commission’, this reimagined 911 has covered fewer than 500 miles since its completion and remains in near-new condition.
This particular commission features a whale tail spoiler, sunroof, and Fuchs-style wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The exterior is finished in a custom paint-to-sample color, Black Eye Darker, with satin carbon accents and satin black brightwork. The brake calipers and central fuel filler cap are color-matched, and a heated rear windshield is also included.
Inside, the car is trimmed in Bone leather, with satin bronze brightwork, black wood trim, rose gold floating gauges, and ivory Alcantara headlining. The cabin also features ivory velour carpeting, Singer’s premium audio system, and wireless phone charging.
Powering the car is a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged air-cooled flat-six Mezger engine, producing 500 horsepower. Power is delivered through a six-speed manual transmission. The vehicle also features adjustable suspension, nose lift, steel Brembo brakes, traction control, ABS, and a titanium muffler.
