The Porsche 964-generation 911 Turbo occupies a special place in the model’s history as one of the last iterations to retain a direct connection to the original 911 formula introduced three decades earlier. While Porsche preserved the car’s unmistakable silhouette, subtle exterior revisions—including redesigned bumpers and taillights—were accompanied by substantial advances beneath the skin. Most significantly, the 964 introduced the first major suspension redesign in the 911’s history, giving the Turbo considerably sharper handling and greater composure than its predecessors.
The revised 911 Turbo debuted for 1990 using the 3.3-liter turbocharged flat-six inherited from the 930. Porsche was simultaneously developing a turbocharged derivative of its new 3.6-liter M64 engine, which eventually arrived for the 1993 model year. Designated the M64/50, the larger engine delivered a significant increase in performance and helped establish the 964 Turbo 3.6 as one of the era’s most desirable air-cooled Porsches.
Production was limited to the 1993 and 1994 model years, with fewer than 1,500 examples built. The package combined a Getrag G50 five-speed manual transaxle with a limited-slip differential, dramatically widened bodywork, a fixed rear spoiler, aerodynamic mirrors, upgraded brakes, and distinctive 18-inch multi-piece Speedline wheels. The result was a focused evolution of the Turbo formula that balanced classic 911 character with substantially improved performance.
Now listed on Bring a Trailer, this 1994 example is finished in a classic black-over-black specification and reportedly has approximately 7,500 miles. The current owner purchased the car new, making its low mileage and long-term ownership particularly notable. Its 18-inch Speedline wheels are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport tires, while larger calipers and cross-drilled rotors provide enhanced braking capability over the standard 964.
Inside, the cabin is upholstered in black leather, with power-adjustable front seats, a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Modern usability comes from air conditioning, power windows, and a Porsche Classic Communication Management system, while Coco floor mats add a period-appropriate finishing touch. A four-spoke leather steering wheel surrounds the central tachometer and 180-mph speedometer, with dedicated gauges monitoring oil pressure, temperature, oil level, and fuel.
At the heart of the Turbo 3.6 is its 3.6-liter turbocharged flat-six, factory rated at 355 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. That output is delivered exclusively to the rear wheels through the five-speed manual gearbox, preserving the engaging mechanical character that has made the 964 Turbo 3.6 a highly coveted modern classic.
