Now Listed on Bring a Trailer, this 2016 Porsche 911 R represents one of the most focused and collectible interpretations of the 991-generation 911. Introduced in 2016 as a limited-production model, the 911 R was Porsche’s answer to enthusiasts who resisted the growing adoption of turbocharging and dual-clutch transmissions. Rather than pursue maximum track capability, Porsche created a lighter, more analog road car built around the naturally aspirated engine and manual transmission from the GT3 RS.
At its core is a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six, factory rated at 500 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. It drives the rear wheels through a specially developed six-speed manual transaxle and limited-slip differential with Porsche Torque Vectoring. The transmission retained the existing casing but received extensively revised internals, while an optional lightweight single-mass flywheel further sharpened the engine’s response. Porsche also incorporated a rev-matching Sport mode for smoother downshifts.
Weight reduction was central to the 911 R’s character. Carbon-fiber body components, a titanium exhaust, reduced sound insulation, and the deletion of unnecessary equipment helped bring curb weight to approximately 1,370 kilograms—roughly 50 kg below the contemporary GT3 RS. Buyers could go further by eliminating the air conditioning and audio systems. Unlike the GT3 RS, however, the 911 R was deliberately configured for road use, receiving narrower tires, more compliant suspension tuning, and lighter steering.
The chassis retains rear-axle steering and adjustable suspension derived from the GT3, recalibrated specifically for the 911 R. Standard carbon-ceramic brakes provide substantial stopping power, using yellow six- and four-piston monobloc calipers. A large GT3-style rear wing was omitted in favor of a more discreet rear spoiler and rear diffuser engineered to maintain stability at high speeds.
This example is number 743 of just 991 cars produced during the model’s single-year run. Finished in white with signature red stripes and black side graphics, it rides on silver 20-inch center-lock GT3 wheels wrapped in Michelin tires. The cabin combines Tarpan Brown leather with Houndstooth cloth, carbon-fiber full bucket seats, and matching carbon-fiber trim.
Equipment includes Sport Chrono, LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System, PCM navigation, dual-zone climate control, Bose audio, cruise control, a CD stereo, and an extended-range fuel tank. The dashboard plaque confirms its production number, while the odometer shows just 1,200 miles.
With its high-revving naturally aspirated engine, lightweight construction, rear-drive chassis, and rare six-speed manual, the 911 R embodies a disappearing formula in modern performance cars: minimal electronic intervention, mechanical immediacy, and extraordinary capability without requiring racetrack speeds to appreciate its character.
