From its first completed commission in 2009, Singer Vehicle Design has evolved from a modest Sun Valley, California, workshop led by former Catherine Wheel front man Rob Dickinson into an enterprise employing nearly 700 people. The company completed its 500th restoration in 2025, while its order book now stretches through 2029.

That extraordinary growth has been built around a singular devotion to the air-cooled Porsche 911. Each car begins with a 964-generation donor chassis and is meticulously reimagined to its owner’s individual specification, combining the celebrated “long-nose” aesthetic of the early 911 with modern precision engineering and carbon-fiber bodywork. Among Singer’s commissions, Targa “reimaginings” remain particularly scarce, with the first completed example appearing only in 2016.

The car offered here began life as a 1990 911 Carrera 4 Targa. Its CARFAX Vehicle History Report begins in November 1993 and documents two decades of continuous California history, during which successive owners clearly used the Porsche as intended. By April 2013, its odometer showed an impressive 153,470 miles, with no accidents or damage reported. Few donor cars arrive at their second chapter having so thoroughly fulfilled their first, and fewer still emerge transformed to the exacting specification seen here.

Reimagined by Singer’s Classic services as the “Coconut Grove Commission,” chassis number 460709 is finished in Singer Racing White, complemented by Satin White wheel centers and ghosted side stripes with Rubystone lettering. The understated palette is punctuated by a stayfast canvas Ruby Targa, while the carbon-fiber bodywork is further distinguished by carefully considered details, including Milky Nickel trim and Rubystone-finished Brembo brake calipers visible through the wheel spokes.

Inside, the theme continues with Dark Plum leather and bespoke woven leather inserts applied across nearly every surface, from the lightweight carbon-fiber racing bucket seats to the dashboard, door cards, and floor mats. Singer Racing White on the seat backs and lower cabin surfaces creates a visual link to the exterior, while Rubystone-faced dials with Pale Pink markings and nickel-plated hardware lend the cabin a distinctive finishing touch.

Behind the cabin is the naturally aspirated “Motorsports” 4.0-liter air-cooled flat-six—the largest engine offered through Singer’s restoration services and believed to have been fitted to just 30 Classics. In this example, it breathes through optional champagne velocity stacks and exhales through the optional titanium muffler system. Coupled to a six-speed manual transmission, the engine preserves the immediacy and character that defined the air-cooled era while sharpening the experience through Singer’s engineering—a combination made more visceral still with the Targa roof removed.

Showing just 55 miles since reimagining at the time of cataloging and offered from original ownership, the Coconut Grove Commission remains effectively in as-delivered condition. For collectors drawn to Singer’s work who were unable to secure an allocation before the Singer Classic order book closed, this Porsche 911 Targa Reimagined by Singer presents a rare opportunity: a completed, highly specified example requiring neither a place in line nor years of waiting, and one that remains ready to be driven.
