Supercar Driver takes the rare 991 Porsche 911 Speedster for a detailed test drive, highlighting its unique status as a manual, convertible GT3. Unlike previous Speedsters based on the Carrera, this limited-edition 911 features a full GT3 4.0‑liter flat-six engine, manual gearbox, GT3 brakes, wheels, rear-wheel steering, and dynamic engine mounts, delivering 510 hp and a rev limit of 9,000 rpm.
The carbon-fiber manual roof is simple to operate, enhancing the open-top experience without compromising usability. The Speedster combines GT3 performance with a slightly more supple suspension, making it ideal for spirited road driving. Its manual gearbox is precise and responsive, with auto-blip downshifts that reward driver engagement. Steering feels natural and direct, while the ceramic brakes provide sharp, confident stopping power.
With fewer than 2,000 units produced, the Speedster is rarer than many contemporary Porsches and offers a unique combination of GT3 performance, open-top freedom, and everyday usability. While expensive, its limited production and driver-focused experience make it a must-drive collector’s car that lives up to its legendary GT3 roots.
