FOR SALE: 1957 Porsche 356 A Carrera GT/GT Lightweight Coupe

An authentic, factory-built racing car created for competition use

This 1957 Porsche 356 A Carrera GT/GT Lightweight Coupe (chassis 100913), offered by Broad Arrow Private Sales, is one of just 26 factory-built competition models produced that year—making it one of the rarest and most authentic racing Porsches of its time.

Delivered new to Hoffman Motors in New York on June 28, 1957, it featured a Silbermetall exterior with a black interior and was equipped with a lightweight body, Plexiglas windows, Speedster bucket seats, sport exhaust, limited-slip differential, and an 80-liter fuel tank. Powered by its original Fuhrmann four-cam engine, this matching-numbers example retains its original transmission and Reutter lightweight coachwork.

Campaigned by SCCA champion Dr. Dick “The Flying Dentist” Thompson, the car debuted at the inaugural Virginia International Raceway event in 1957 and raced extensively at Montgomery and Nassau Speed Week under the Hoffman Motors banner. Thompson noted it may have been the first Carrera fitted with Weber carburetors.

After Thompson, the Porsche was sold to Michael Cappiello, who continued racing it successfully through 1958. The car subsequently passed through several U.S. collectors, including PCA concours judge Glenn Herman and enthusiast Mike Curnow, who stored it for nearly 30 years.

Acquired in 2018 by its current Texas-based owner, the Carrera underwent a meticulous, factory-correct, nut-and-bolt restoration completed in 2021. Work by specialists including Speedsport Tuning, Euroworks, and Autos International restored its original silver finish, black interior, and mechanical integrity. The car has since achieved major concours victories at Amelia Island, Hilton Head, Radnor Hunt, Greenwich, and ModaMiami.

Accompanied by comprehensive documentation, factory Kardex, and matching-numbers certification, chassis 100913 represents a definitive example of Porsche’s early racing heritage—a genuine lightweight Carrera GT/GT with proven competition history and an award-winning restoration.
