Among the most decorated and intimidating 911 race cars ever built, the 934 is a machine that earned both admiration and fear, quickly earning the “Widowmaker” reputation on track. 9WERKS TV on YouTube got the opportunity to test drive this legendary race car.

Introduced in 1975, the 930 served as the foundation for the 934, which was developed for Group 4 racing in 1976 and 1977. Although intended for privateer teams, Porsche’s factory drivers also got their hands on it. The car was demanding, unpredictable, and earned its deadly reputation quickly.

The 934 kept the 930’s steel body and impact bumpers but added wide arches to house massive wheels—10.5 inches up front and 12.5 inches in the rear. Group 4 rules allowed Porsche to increase the track by 50 mm at the front and 100 mm at the back, giving the car its muscular stance.

Brakes were borrowed from the 917 race car, and the whale tail spoiler was carried over from the 3.0-liter Turbo. While the 930 made 260 horsepower, the 934 debuted with 485 hp, later rising to 570 hp in 1977. At just 1,200 kg, it was light, aggressive, and brutally powerful—double the output of its road-going counterpart.
