Matt Farah of TheSmokingTire had the rare chance to drive a historic RUF Yellowbird at the Concours Club in Miami during Flat 6 Fest. Although he initially planned to compare an original Yellowbird with a newer model, one car was sold before filming, leaving him to focus on a single example—a widebody 1991 Yellowbird.

The car features a 3.4-liter air-cooled twin-turbo flat-six producing around 469 horsepower, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. Its twin-turbo setup and six-speed transmission were advanced for the era, giving it a more modern and linear power delivery than the single-turbo Porsches of the time.

Farah praised the car’s steering feel, braking performance, and engaging driving dynamics on track. Despite its high value, estimated in the millions, the Yellowbird delivered an exciting and rewarding experience. He highlighted RUF’s engineering philosophy of innovation, weight reduction, and driver feedback, which helped make the Yellowbird one of the most iconic performance cars of its era.
