FOR SALE: 2016 Porsche 911 R

Number 464 of the 991 examples produced

Porsche’s 991-generation 911 R emerged directly in response to the debut of the 991 GT3 RS. Its predecessor, the 997 GT3 RS, had earned a loyal following thanks to its lightweight, track-focused nature and its exclusive six-speed manual gearbox—an increasingly rare feature as automated manuals and PDK units became dominant. When Porsche launched the 991 GT3 RS with PDK only, enthusiasts admired its superior on-track performance but lamented the loss of a manual option.

Listening to its customers, Porsche soon unveiled a special model that paired the GT3 RS’s drivetrain with a manual transmission: the 911 R, introduced at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Though mechanically close to the GT3 RS, the 911 R embraced a different philosophy. Revised suspension and steering, combined with its six-speed manual, shifted the emphasis from chasing lap times to delivering a purer, more engaging driving experience for enthusiasts.

Of the 991 cars produced, 296 were allocated to the United States, including this example—serial number 464—now listed on Bring a Trailer with 8,569 miles. Finished in Black with Red stripes, matching side graphics, and High-Gloss Black wheels, it features desirable equipment such as the extended-range fuel tank and a single-mass flywheel with reinforced clutch. While the 911 R could be configured for extreme weight savings, this car was clearly optioned for both performance and long-distance usability.

Additional features include the Sport Chrono package, Bose surround-sound system, PCM with navigation, and black LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System. Inside, the cabin is trimmed in black leather with silver accents and houndstooth seat inserts—a nod to earlier generations of the 911 R.
