FOR SALE: 2005 Porsche Carrera GT

A low mileage example that's expected to fetch as much as $2,800,000

Since its founding in 1948, Porsche has built numerous homologation models designed to satisfy racing regulations while remaining street legal. Intended as the successor to the Le Mans–winning 911 GT1, the Porsche Carrera GT began development in 1999 under Porsche’s motorsport division.

However, changes to FIA rules ended plans for endurance racing, leading Porsche to reposition the project as a high-performance road car instead. Production started for the 2004 model year and concluded in May 2006, with approximately 1,270 units built at Porsche’s Leipzig factory—644 of which were allocated to the U.S. market.

Heading to auction with RM Sotheby’s in Miami, this example shows just 602 miles and is finished in GT Silver Metallic. It’s powered by a mid-mounted 5.7-liter V10 producing 605 horsepower, enabling 0–60 mph in 3.8 seconds, 0–100 mph in under seven seconds, and a top speed of 205 mph. Power is sent through a six-speed manual and rear transaxle, featuring a distinctive birch-and-ash gear knob inspired by the legendary 917 race car.

The Carrera GT’s engineering is race-derived, featuring a carbon-fiber monocoque and safety cell, aluminum subframes, ceramic composite clutch and brakes, and carbon-reinforced mounts. Forged magnesium wheels and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes complement a pushrod suspension system and an automatically deploying rear wing.

Inside, the reinforced cockpit includes airbags, removable carbon-fiber roof panels, leather bucket seats, air conditioning, and a lightweight magnesium console. Xenon headlights, a stainless-steel exhaust, yellow brake calipers, and a fitted luggage set complete this highly collectible supercar.
