FOR SALE: 1992 Porsche 911 (964) Carrera 4 ‘Patagonia 4×4’

A one-of-a-kind custom off-road build

First registered in the German market in February 1992 and now offered for sale on Collecting Cars, this extraordinary Porsche 911 is a one-of-a-kind custom off-road build based on the highly desirable 964-generation Carrera 4. Known as the prototype “Patagonia 4×4,” it features a radical reimagining of the classic 911 formula, including a bespoke portal axle setup.

Developed as a proof-of-concept for a proposed run of just 10 cars, this unique example wears a custom metal widebody and a specially engineered portal axle system. Power comes from a naturally aspirated 3.6-litre air-cooled flat-six engine, sending drive to all four wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox.

It is finished in a striking two-tone satin gold and NATO olive vinyl wrap with red pinstriping and matching “Patagona” bonnet stripes, while the interior is trimmed in complementary green and brown leather with red stitching and seat belts. Houndstooth-pattern inserts appear throughout the cabin, paired with brown Carbone woven carpets.

The car rides on exclusive 17-inch Sportwagen Classics off-road Fuchs-style beadlock wheels in satin black with gold lips, wrapped in BFGoodrich Trail-Terrain T/A tyres. Additional equipment includes LED lighting, a roof rack, Turbo-style rear wing, Recaro bucket seats, a modern 992 steering wheel, custom instrumentation, air conditioning, and upgraded suspension incorporating 964 Turbo components and Bilstein dampers.
