Few race cars capture the spirit of their era like the Porsche 956 and 962. These Group C legends dominated endurance racing through the 1980s, winning Le Mans six times consecutively and securing the World Endurance Championship from 1982 to 1986. Introduced in 1982, the 956 was an instant success in Europe but didn’t meet IMSA’s safety standards. Porsche’s answer was the 962—an evolution with a longer wheelbase, moving the driver’s feet behind the front axle to meet North American regulations.
The 962 debuted at Daytona in 1984 with Mario and Michael Andretti at the wheel and soon became a global force. After aerodynamic refinements, the 962C version arrived for Group C competition. Alongside Porsche’s factory entries, elite privateers such as Brun Motorsport, founded by Swiss driver Walter Brun in 1983, achieved major success. Brun’s team clinched the 1986 World Endurance Teams’ title, defeating even the factory-backed squads.
Currently available for sale through Collecting Cars, this remarkable 1990 Porsche 962C is one of the final examples built by the factory, and one of only three customer cars delivered to Brun Motorsport for that year’s World Sports Prototype Championship. It competed at Montreal and Mexico City, completing just around 80 laps in total—making it likely the lowest-mileage, most original 962 known.
Powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six engine producing around 700bhp (rising to 750bhp on overboost), it features water-cooled heads, Bosch MP 1.7 electronics, and a five-speed manual gearbox. Remarkably, it still retains its factory Bosch ECU rather than the more common MoTeC conversion, thanks to careful refurbishment by a leading German specialist. The cockpit, instruments, and Repsol-liveried bodywork remain in superb original condition.
Restored by Katana Ltd between 2022 and 2023, this 962C has been preserved to an exceptional standard and exhibited at world-class events including Goodwood Festival of Speed, Heveningham Hall Concours, and Boxengasse Megaphonics.
