Drag Race: 812 Superfast VS Aventador SVJ 63 VS 992 911 Turbo S

Another week, another drag race! Although this week, we have a bit of a special one.

Carwow, in their infinite wisdom, decided that the best way to find out which of the top-spec models from Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche was to… well, race them!

Once again, the tale of the tape:

In the black corner, the Ferrari 812 Superfast. A 6.5-liter V12 producing 789 BHP and 553 lbs-ft of tire-shredding torque. Oh, and the classic Ferrari V12 wail from the exhausts.

In the white and slightly fluorescent green corner, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ 63. A 6.5-liter V12 producing 770 BHP and 530 lbs-ft of torque. It’s exhaust barks and rumbles, ready to bite the head off of any challenger.

In the subtle silver corner, the Porsche Type 992 911 Turbo S. A 3.8 liter, twin-turbocharged flat-six with 640 BHP and a chunky 590 lbs-ft of torque. However, unlike the Italians, it doesn’t bark or sing as much as purr from its exhausts.

Also, it should be noted, the Ferrari is RWD, while both the Lamborghini and the Porsche are AWD.

In the first run of the race, the Lamborghini jumps the start by maybe a hundredth of a second, but two important things happen. The Ferrari, with only two wheels of driving force, gets left behind.

Notice the Lamborghini is already hunkered down and back during its launch while the arms are still up? jump start, my friends!

And the second thing? The Porsche wins by just a car length.

So, not satisfied with just one run, they go again! This time, the Ferrari launches much better, and despite being left behind slightly, at the end of the run, it’s almost a photo finish.

Porsche easily takes win #2.

But not for the Porsche, which simply wafted away from the shouting Italians to pleasantly cruise across the line well ahead and in first.

So, it goes to show. Sometimes big, shouty, roaring, barking V12’s aren’t the best engines for drag racing. A well developed turbocharged engine can generate way more torque than many can fathom, and the Porsche shows such strength in this drag race.
