Air-Cooled Legend to Cross the Block at RM Sotheby’s

One of 194 Porsche 911 993 GT2s made between 1995 and 1998

Designed primarily for racing yet still road legal, the Porsche 911 GT2 traces its lineage to the iconic 1973 911 Carrera RS. Named after the FIA’s GT2 racing class, it debuted in 1993 with the Type 993 generation—often regarded as the most beautifully executed 911. The 911 GT2 pushed performance boundaries by stripping away weight and complexity.

Eliminating all-wheel drive, rear seats, and other amenities reduced its mass by about 225 kilograms. Its twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six delivered 430 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque on the road—figures that translate to just 6.6 pounds per horsepower, better than the legendary 959.

Power was sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed transaxle and a 40/60 limited-slip differential, enabling 0–60 mph in under four seconds and a top speed near 190 mph. To improve performance, Porsche upgraded the brakes, suspension, and aerodynamics, adding wider arches, lightweight materials, and a larger rear wing. Built through 1998, the 993 GT2 became one of the most extreme and revered 911s ever made.

Completed on 31 May 1995, this 911 GT2 was finished in Grand Prix White over a Black interior and configured with a powerful battery, sports seats, air conditioning, differential lock, Momo leather steering wheel, deleted airbags, and a 92-litre fuel tank.

Ordered through Porsche’s Exclusive Manufaktur program (code 09971), it was delivered new by GT L’Experience Porsche in Rouen, France. After brief French and UK ownership, it returned to France for nearly two decades before re-entering the UK, where it received extensive servicing and upgrades by GCAP Performance and JZM Porsche between 2021 and 2024.

Showing 29,182 kilometres, it is accompanied by its books, service records, tools, and accessories. Regarded as the ultimate 993-generation 911, this rare, air-cooled GT2 will be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s on November 1 with an estimate of $1,450,000–$1,750,000, offering collectors an exceptional opportunity.
