The 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 represents the ultimate evolution of the legendary Mezger-powered 911, serving as the final production tribute to the race-bred engine architecture that traces its roots to the 1996 Porsche GT1 Le Mans program. Developed under Andreas Preuninger’s GT division, the model received the largest naturally aspirated engine ever factory-installed in a 911—a 4.0-liter flat-six producing 493 horsepower at 8,250 rpm and 339 lb-ft of torque at 5,750 rpm.
Delivering an exceptional 125 horsepower per liter, the engine combined a GT3 RSR-derived crankshaft with titanium connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, revised VarioCam valve timing, an optimized intake system, and a freer-flowing center-exit exhaust to create one of Porsche’s most celebrated powerplants.
Beyond its remarkable engine, the GT3 RS 4.0 incorporated Porsche’s most advanced motorsport-inspired engineering. A six-speed manual transmission and mechanical limited-slip differential preserved an uncompromised driver-focused experience, while Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), 19-inch center-lock GT Silver alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Cup tires, and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with adjustable coilover dampers delivered exceptional track capability.
Extensive weight-saving measures—including carbon-fiber front fenders, hood, engine intake box, lightweight bucket seats, and reduced-mass interior materials—helped keep curb weight to just 2,998 pounds with a full fuel tank.
