Porsche is taking its GT4 customer racing program upmarket with the all-new 911 GT4 R, marking the first time the iconic 911 platform has been adapted for global GT4 competition. Set to debut in the 2027 motorsport season, the new racer replaces the long-serving Cayman-based GT4 Clubsport at the top of Porsche’s customer motorsport lineup.
Built on the current 992.2-generation 911 GT3 Cup platform, the GT4 R is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six producing up to 520 horsepower, paired with a six-speed sequential gearbox. Under GT4 Balance of Performance regulations, output can be reduced to 430 hp via factory-installed air restrictors.
Compared with its Cayman predecessor, the 911 GT4 R features a wider track, updated motorsport electronics, improved suspension adjustability, and enhanced aerodynamics, all aimed at improving drivability and lap times. Porsche also incorporates natural-fiber composite body panels and cockpit components to reduce weight and improve sustainability.
Porsche says the move reflects the rapid growth of GT4 racing worldwide, which has evolved from an entry-level category into a highly competitive stepping stone to GT3 competition. Since entering GT4 in 2016, Porsche has built more than 1,500 Cayman-based customer race cars, and the new 911 GT4 R is designed to carry that success into the next era.
