Tedward reviews a special-edition Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS created to celebrate 50 years of Porsche Design. Limited to 750 units, the car features an all-black finish with satin platinum trim, unique badging, and an exclusive interior with special materials, stitching, and a dashboard-mounted Porsche Design clock. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche’s signature appears throughout, highlighting the connection to the original design studio.
This example comes with a seven-speed manual and the Targa’s distinctive retractable roof. Power comes from a 473-hp twin-turbo flat-six, delivering strong midrange torque and confident all-wheel-drive traction. Four-wheel steering improves maneuverability in tight spaces and stability at speed.
On the road, the Targa 4 GTS balances performance and usability. The manual gearbox rewards smooth inputs, and while not as sharp as a GT model, it remains quick and engaging. The car feels fast enough for everyday driving without needing Turbo-level power.
More than a collector’s piece, the special-edition Targa 50 Years Porsche Design works well as a year-round sports car—comfortable for daily use yet capable on twisty roads—making it a distinctive but practical take on the 911 formula.
